Who Am I? (“Kto som ja?”)

by | Dec 7, 2020 | EN, Rankovce M2 EN, Songs

“Who Am I” is a song first released in 2003 by the American band Casting Crowns. In the years since its first release, it has since been translated and become popular worldwide – including in Slovakia.

Marian Galdun, the lead singer of M2, believes that songs like this one play an important role in the life of the Christian. “Christian music is like a prayer, it allows us to express what we feel. It’s not about whether I sing really well or if I’m really good on the guitar. It’s about the fact that when I sing, I can put all of myself into the music.”

Galdun uses this song often when he’s leading worship because of the powerful impact it has had on his faith. It continually reminds him in difficult times that God’s love for him is not based on his own merits or actions. “This is how God loves me,” he says. “So much… and I believe God loves everyone this way, no matter what color they are, or where they are from, or what they’ve done.”

Who am I, that the lord of all the earth,
Would care to know my name,
Would care to feel my hurt?
Who am I, that the bright and morning star
Would choose to light the way,
For my ever wandering heart?

Not because of who I am,
But because of what you’ve done.
Not because of what I’ve done,
But because of who you are.

I am a flower quickly fading,
Here today and gone tomorrow,
A wave tossed in the ocean,
A vapor in the wind.
Still you hear me when I’m calling,
Lord, you catch me when I’m falling.
And you’ve told me who I am –
I am yours.

Who am I, that the eyes that see my sin,
Would look on me with love,
And watch me rise again?
Who am I, that the voice that calmed the sea,
Would call out through the rain,
And calm the storm in me?

Kto som ja, že Pán Zeme o mne vie,
že ma pozná po mene,
moju bolesť sám chce niesť?
Kto som ja, že Hviezda jasná, nebeská,
chce mi svietiť na cestách,
aby som viac nezblúdil?

Nezáleží kto som ja,
ale Kým si pre mňa sám,
nie to čo chcem robiť ja,
ale čo chceš Pane, ty!

Som len kvet čo rýchlo vädne,
dnes som a zajtra nie,
